There’s Still So Much to See

You may feel like you just want to stay in at this time of year — the weather can be dreary, the light a bit flat, and the sofa far too convincing. I get it. But if you’re able to get out, even briefly and even often, it really does do you the world of good.

Instead of heading to the shops where everyone else is doing the same thing at the same time, why not take a different route and explore the countryside instead? A short walk, a longer wander, or just a pause somewhere quiet, you’ll feel so much better for it, and you won’t have to queue for it either.

I’m always saying there’s something to see, and I stand by that especially at this time of year. So far this month (and remember, we’re still only halfway through December as I write this), I’ve photographed a lovely swan, an amazing robin, a sunset so strange my phone captured it looking filtered, a beautifully curled lime sprig, a stunning ladybird hibernating between sloe berries, an exquisite Peak District view… and a fungus-and-berry combination that looks like Rudolph.

No, seriously it does. Here is the photo is there to prove it.

And all of that has happened before we’re even halfway through the month.

Nature doesn’t pack up for winter. It just changes pace, softens its colours, and rewards those who slow down enough to notice. You don’t need blue skies or dramatic landscapes, just a bit of curiosity and a willingness to step outside.

So as Christmas Day approaches, and the pressure starts to build from being under each other’s feet, ticking off lists, and doing all the things, consider this your gentle reminder to step away from it for a while. Get out. Breathe. See what there is to see.

It might just be the calm you didn’t realise you needed.

Happy wellbeing Christmas everyone.
