Sometimes the hardest decision isn’t which photographs go inside a book… it’s deciding which one belongs on the cover.
One of the biggest decisions when putting together My Years in Photos – Book 3 wasn’t choosing which photographs went inside the book.
It was deciding which one should appear on the cover.
After narrowing it down to five photographs that I thought would each make a fitting cover, I couldn’t decide between them. Rather than making the decision on my own, I shared all five on social media and asked everyone to vote for their favourite.
These were the five photographs that went to the public vote.
The response was brilliant.
Loads of people voted, commented and shared their thoughts. Every photograph had its supporters, and it was fascinating to see how different people were drawn to different images. In the end, one photograph received the most votes and became the official cover.
But that didn’t feel like the end of the story.
The other four photographs had inspired just as much enthusiasm, and it seemed a shame that they would simply disappear after the poll had finished.
So, instead of producing just one version of Book 3, I decided to create five cover editions.
Inside, every edition is exactly the same. Every photograph, every story and every page is identical. The only difference is the cover, leaving you free to choose the photograph that appeals to you most.
Whether it’s the one you voted for, one that reminds you of a favourite walk, or simply an image that makes you smile, there isn’t a wrong choice.
